About Us

James Cooney Funeral Directors was established in 1920 by Richard Cooney.

In 1921 Richard's Brother John took over the running of the business, in 1967 John's son Jim followed in his fathers footsteps, in 2002 Jim's daughter Joanne became the next generation of Cooney's to run this now well established business with the help and guidance of her mother Frances.

Together, we strive to serve you and your loved one with the professionalism and dedication that you would expect of us. At all times we ensure to treat you and your loved one with the dignity and respect you deserve.

We take pride in continually educating our staff and ourselves, thus, enabling us to serve you to the best of our ability and to the highest standard expected.

Our Funeral home was started in 1983 and we opened our doors to the public in October of 1985, and consists of two viewing rooms. Toilet facilities, coffin showroom and tea/coffee refreshment facilities.

Our Embalming theatre is situated away from the funeral home guaranteeing complete privacy.

In 1983 we became members of the IAFD and 1998 of the BIE and in 2012 Joanne successfully completed the QQI Level 5 Certificate in Funeral Practice.

We strive to adhere to the Code of Practice of both associations.

Our goal is to relieve families of further stress and worry at this difficult time.

We are constantly seeking to improve our service and welcome constructive suggestions. We do hope this information proves of value to you and your family.

Sincerely
Frances & Joanne Cooney
